Inspirational ten-year-old raises funds for our patients
Sophie, aged 10, has been raising funds for us since she was just four years old!
In 2014, Sophie’s mum’s friend was cared for by our Hospice before she sadly died. Sophie was only able to meet her once, but was just a baby at the time.
To honour and remember her friend, Sophie’s mum started taking part in the Basingstoke 5k Run to raise funds for us. Inspired by her mum, when Sophie was just 4 years old, she decided she wanted to take part in the run to raise funds for us too!
During the pandemic, Sophie was unable to take part in the Basingstoke Run, so decided to take on some of her own fundraising. In the first year, she challenged herself to a sponsored 25km walk, then the following year, she went even further and completed a 50km challenge!
This year, aged just 10, Sophie set herself her greatest challenge so far – she wanted to cycle 100km during May – a busy month for Sophie as she also had her SATs. Sophie raised £215 to help us care for our patients – and smashed her challenge by cycling 118km!
Sophie’s mum said, ‘We are so incredibly proud of Sophie. She has been so dedicated to her challenges over the years; she has never complained about getting out on her bike or going for a walk and just wanted to raise as much money as she could for the Hospice.’
Sophie’s proven you’re never too young to support a charity that’s important to you and we can’t wait to see what she goes on to achieve in the future! Thank you for being amazing Sophie.
