It’s that time of the month again where we celebrate our amazing supporters! We had a really busy fundraising month across our community in June, so we’re sharing some of those amazing people and their successes. We simply can’t continue to provide our vital care without people like you supporting us, so thank you so much!

Sophie’s 100KM in May challenge!

Sophie started raising money for the Hospice when she was 4 years old, taking part in the Basingstoke 5K run with her mum in memory of her mum’s wonderful friend Emma, who was cared for at the Hospice. When Covid hit, it meant they couldn’t do the run together, so Sophie started coming up with her own challenges at home. She likes to push herself more each year, and this year she decided to cycle 100KM throughout May. She smashed her target and ended up cycling 118KM throughout May and has raised an incredible £215 for the Hospice – thank you Sophie!

Four Marks Beavers Sponsored Walk

The Four Marks Beavers Group took on a challenge to walk 5 laps of their field to raise money for our patients. They had a great time, having a squash and biscuit break after lap 2 and one Beaver went the extra mile and did an extra lap of the field! Together they raised £520 for the Hospice – well done!

Del and Jayne’s Jersey Long Walk Challenge

Del and Janye took on the Jersey Long Walk challenge in June for St. Michael’s Hospice. The 48 mile trek was tough, with a lot of large peaks to walk up and back down, temperatures hitting 33 degrees and over 30 miles being cliff paths, with the path being rocky and uneven. Despite these challenges they completed the route in an impressive 19 hours and 19 minutes and raised an incredible £940 for the Hospice – fantastic work Del and Jayne!

The Longest Day 72 Hole Golf Challenge

On Wednesday 21 June, four members of Basingstoke Golf Club took on ‘The Longest Day’ challenge. The challenge involved setting off at the crack of dawn to play 72 holes of golf throughout the day, aiming to finish before sundown.  Chris, Mark, Fred and Cam had a great day playing at Basingstoke Golf Club, where despite the renovations and the walk between the holes being longer than the holes themselves, they completed the challenge with time to spare. So far they’ve raised over £3,000 for the Hospice, with plans to continue raising money for us throughout the summer – we can’t wait to see what they do next.

Worldham Golf Club 12 Hour Captains Challenge

The Mens, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors Captains and Vice Captains of Worldham Golf Club took on the challenge to play as many rounds of golf between them as possible from 6am – 6pm. It was a challenging day, with each Captain and Vice Captain playing at least 18 holes (the Men’s Captain played 54 holes!), before they all played the last hole together and returned to the Clubhouse for some fish and chips and a celebratory quiz with all the other members. They raised over £2,500 from the day and are continuing their fundraising for us throughout 2023 – thank you so much!

Sherfield Oaks Golf Club Captains Day and 99 Hole Challenge

Sherfield Oaks Golf Club Captain, Steve, held two incredible fundraisers for us in June, his Hollywood-themed Captains Day and a 99 Hole Challenge. The Hollywood Captains Day went down a treat with the members, with each team dressing up as different movies there was a Baywatch team, a Super Mario Brothers team and a Ghostbusters team (complete with a golf buggy turned into the Ghostbusters car!) to name a few. It was a scorching hot day so the teams were very happy to get back to the Clubhouse for a cool beer and BBQ before bidding on the wonderful prizes Steve had secured for their raffle and auction.

If that wasn’t enough Steve then went on to play 99 holes of golf in one day for the Hospice the following week! He teed off bright and early at 4am and completed his last hole 16 hours and 20 minutes later, taking 428 shots throughout the day and walking over 32 miles! He had a wonderful support team that got him through the day, bringing him snacks and refreshments (as well as running ahead on the golf buggy to make sure the next holes were clear for him to play!).

These 2 events combined have raised over £15,500 for St. Michael’s Hospice – thank you Steve!

Basingstoke Golf Club 3 Captains Challenge

The three Captains of Basingstoke Golf Club took on a new challenge to raise funds for their chosen charities this year, playing the first hole of 18 different golf courses in one day! It was a long day, they teed off at Basingstoke Golf Club at 5.30am before jumping in the car and heading to the next course, finally arriving back at Basingstoke Golf Club at 6pm, where they were greeted by the Club members with a BBQ. A huge thank you to all 3 Captains for supporting us with this challenge – we’re looking forward to what they do next!

Alton Armed Forces Day

The Alton St. Michael’s Hospice Charity Shop had a stall at the Alton Armed Forces Day, where a convey of military vehicles drove from Portsmouth to Alton to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces Community. The Alton Shop had been busy collecting donations for the event, and had a great selection of gifts for the adult tombola and over 100 Ty teddies for the children’s tombola! It was a busy and successful day, and they raised over £400 – well done everyone!

Virgin Media volunteer at Hospice

We want to say a huge thank you to the team from Virgin Media who volunteered at our Hospice in June! They prepped and painted benches for our gardens and planters for our Sunflower Celebration. It was a really warm day and they didn’t let that get in their way – thank you!
