Hospice at Home Palliative Care RGN (SMH Band 6)

  • Salary: £36,454 - £43,897 (FTE) SMH Band 6 (depending on experience)
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week (worked over a 4 week roster period)

About the role

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a highly motivated, passionate experienced nurse to join our extraordinary Hospice at Home Team who work as specialist nurses in end-of-life care to support patients at home in the last weeks and days of their lives. This exciting opportunity has become available due to career progression of the previous post holder.

We are looking for a nurse who wishes to specialise in palliative and end of life care, or who already has experience in this area. Passion and a love of the nursing role and making a difference to our patients and their family’s lives are key aspirations we are looking for in the successful candidate.

Experience of working within the community setting would be an advantage.

St. Michael’s Hospice is a registered charity providing specialist palliative and end of life care services since 1992, for the people of North Hampshire. We are dedicated to providing care to people throughout North Hampshire who are affected by life limiting illness to attain the highest possible quality of life by providing a choice of specialist care and support.

As a charity, we depend on the kindness and support of our local community to continue offering our services free of charge. This care is made possible by supporters donating, taking part in fundraising events and activities, playing our lottery, shopping in our retail outlets, leaving gifts in their Wills or giving freely of their time to volunteer.

The Hospice at Home team cover shifts over a 7-day working week. You will also be expected to be able to attend additional training throughout the rotation including mandatory training, local bespoke training and university accredited courses.We provide good educational & development opportunities, clinical supervision and regular 1:1 support with your line manager to review development needs.

Opportunities to rotate between the inpatient unit and hospice at home services to further develop your knowledge and skills in palliative care and end of life and enhance awareness of the patient and family experience of end-of-life care, can be available as part of career development and progression.

St. Michael’s Hospice is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults, children and young people. All staff are expected to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be required to undergo relevant background checks, including a DBS check and provide satisfactory references before starting the role.

As part of the recruitment process, candidates will be required to give a presentation of approximately 10 minutes detailing a patient with complex care needs.
